Concerns. I am regularly asked by a Board of Directors to provide advice on hybrid working in their organization. There are concerns. Concerns about the fact that employees are only in the office 3 days a week, but certainly also concerns about the fact that employees are not always there from 9 to 6 on these office days.
Figures. The labor productivity, absenteeism and MTO figures look good. Agreements on hybrid working have been shared with each other. Employees are satisfied, vital and visibly involved. It is easier to attract employees who live further away. We see this reflected in the speed at which vacancies are filled.
Emotion. Despite the fact that there are no signals within the organization that hybrid working is not going well, it does not “feel” good to the Board. The Board’s concerns are an emotion.
Letting go. The employees clearly know what they have to do, they have the space to do it and are guided by their managers where necessary. In addition, there is regular consultation, there are clear agreements on when they see each other in the office and the figures are good. Mistakes are certainly made, but that is also the case in the office. In short, this requires the trust of the Management, after which letting go can follow and we discuss this further with each other. It is good that we share this emotion together.
Trust. Every (work) relationship is based on trust, regardless of where we are and who we are. Trust is the basis of everything. We seem to forget this quite often. If you want to discuss this further, please contact me.
